It’s Blocktime, Jenni Walker’s new site-specific installation, draws on the history of Techno Park Studios as a kindergarten built in the late 1960s. Imagining the raucous voices echoing in the space, skinned knees and clandestine meetings ‘behind the shelter shed’ Walker has constructed a large-scale architectural intervention incorporating textile fragments and embroidery.
This is Jenni Walker’s first solo exhibition since graduating with a BFA in Painting from the VCA in 2010. Working with embroidery and textiles her works from the Graduate Exhibition were purchased for the Melbourne University Student Union Art Collection. While studying, her work was seen at the George Paton Experimental Art Space and, from 2006, in the Linden Postcard Show. Since leaving the VCA she has been a finalist in the Belle Arti, Chapman and Bailey Art Award and the recent Works on Paper Prize at the Brunswick Street Gallery. She was recently awarded an artist-in-residence studio at St Vincent’s Hospital.
