Set in the heart of Industrial Williamstown, ZUMBA & GOLIATH is an exhibition bringing together artists and artefacts in a showcase of new cultural forms
being created and communicated via emerging technologies and methodologies. The exhibition springs from a fascination with the life of cultural ideas
and practices in the world: their re-contextualisation over time, and their strange, often superficial, adoption by various cultures. Zumba refers to the dance
fitness program created in Colombia, a hybrid of Latin dancing and aerobics. In Zumba, the maraca is not an instrument, but a 'fitness toning stick'.The artists participating in Zumba & Goliath, both international and locally-based, have worked within this framework as a part of their own practices. Their work
will be displayed alongside selected artefacts, sourced by the curators and artists that exemplify this process of cultural ingenuity.
